birds of a feather
So far today, since I left town, I've seen five men wearing bird shirts. Always different colours and different birds, these men of varying ages were all seen, in various spots within a two-hours-by-car range, sporting a shirt with a bird prominently silkscreened on the front. They were all really nice shirts, worn by older men. What is with this?

lazy Saturday
Yesterday was just about the closest to a holiday at home I've had in awhile. It was cold and rainy out, so V and I stayed in for the morning, reading the paper and doing crossword puzzles. Then in the afternoon, we went to get my new (old) record player - a friend of mine got a new one and traded me his old one for a tray of baked goods! What a great trade - a win-win situation, I'd say. We went to a store downtown and got a cartridge for it, and the store guys were really nice and helpful, installing it and recalibrating it for free. They even tested it out in the store, playing a Dire Straits album. It's hooked up at home and sounds good! So exciting.
Then it was a potluck/games night with the band, which is always delicious and super fun. We played Cranium and had wine. It was great!
(I know I can't keep doing this, because I still have so much work to do, but it was a lovely day.)

Sometimes when you're having a sad day, something comes out of nowhere to cheer you up. Remember the clip of this that was on the tape in Amélie? I've always wondered who that was. If you want more, there's a book out and NPR's got a bit on her, too. [via Smarts & Crafts]
